SOUTHERNMOST SNOW SIMS

INTERESTING BUILDING IN BRAGGIANI

 ADMUNSEN ROAD

I'm still alone on my journey for now, which is fine. Solitude is fun too! Eventually, I do hope to gather more vagabonds on the trip, like last time. If you missed it before, we had a group that travelled together, when online, camping along the way. Group members would simply join the tour in progress when they were logged in. Some days we travelled alone. It was a great time. I re-started the group today.

MORE SNOWMEN SHENANIGANS

HALLOWEEN IN SECOND LIFE

So let's go see what we can find!
MISSHAPEN HOUSE
Here is a build based on "Nightmare Before Christmas", the Tim Burton classic.
"Boys and girls of every age
Wouldn't you like to see something strange?
Come with us and you will see
This, our town of Halloween"
JACK & SALLY
Nicely done exhibit on a homestead sim, tres eerie.
PENTAGON TRAP
I visited a place called Grimworx. They've got various Halloween trappings on sale. By trappings, I mean literally.....
IMPALED
Torture on a Wednesday morning, Allie's caught in Vlad's clutches...You walk in a door which suddenly slams shut behind you, & find the walls are closing in on you...
"HELLO, DANNY!"
"We have realistic interactive items for your haunted house, medieval dungeon, or gothic sim that are perfect for Halloween. We have traps, fog, spiders, bats, snakes, ghosts, & more. Owner: Grim Bracken"
HAUNTED HOUSE
Adventure Isle features a landing in a pool of blood. You must find your way out to see the rest....accompanied by the eerie music from "Nightmare on Elm Street"...
THE PARLOR
"A taste of Hell in Second Life.   Come and wonder around the haunted house.  Try to escape the spooky corn maze.  Much to explore.  Visit Club Paradise, an awesome Gothic style hangout where friends gather during a full moon."
POLTERGEIST-LADEN KITCHEN
I'll give a fair warning that if you don't like being startled (sudden noises, things jumping out at you or suddenly happening), then naturally you probably know to avoid Halloween exhibits, real or virtual....
ILL FORTUNE
If you're brave enough to venture upstairs, there's a fortune telling room (more poltergeists) & accompanied by creepy sounds. A child cries, a woman gasps, insects hover...
RUSSIAN ROULETTE VICTIM
He's seen better days!
VISIT ADVENTURE ISLE
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 SWAMP SHACK
This is the landing point for my next stop.
"Bewitched -- Haunted Dark Forest"
 HAUNTED POND
"Wander and explore this dark, foreboding landscape formerly known as Bentham Forest.  Created by Andrek Lowell, integrated works by Lauren Bentham."
THE TREES HAVE EYES
Betham Forest is a well-known, well-loved Second Life landmark.
"Many moons ago, Bentham Forest was a magical woodland shelter where faes, elves and other wonderous creatures once frolicked and played harmoneously. Then one day a great famine befell the once happy and lively forest. This famine killed off nearly all of the magical beings EXCEPT for a few of each kind. The remaining inhabitants slowly dwindled as they packed up and left, hoping one day to return and recolonize the now dark , foreboding landsape that is Bentham Forest."--Betham Forest Promotional Video
WATCH THE AWESOME PROMOTIONAL VIDEO!
 BENTHAM TREE
I've seen these trees around SL before, so they're apparently for sale, tho this is my first visit to the famous woods.
WATCH ANOTHER VIDEO ON BETHAM FOREST
 GLOWING UNDERGROWTH
The scenery in many spots is almost more beautiful than eerie. Or somehow it manages to invoke both, at once.
 EVER FEEL...WATCHED?
The hills...wait! The bushes have eyes!!!
SHROOM MAN
There are quests around the sim. Shroom man says:
"HAH, Puny thing, If I had not already eaten my fill, I would make short work of you! What makes you think you can just wander around my lands without an invitation? Perhaps I can ensure your safety...IF, you complete a task for me.Around my lands you will find a large assortment of mushrooms, but there are 3 specific mushrooms which are rare, and would serve to further my own ends. Find me yellow mushrooms, they thrive on wood forgotten by time."
MUSHROOM GARDEN
I don't think I'd dare to eat anything along this path. Is that glow nuclear?
"ELDER SHROOM"
"This dark, foreboding, and haunted forest is perfect for a Halloween stroll. An eerie soundtrack plays as the crickets chime and the fireflies hover around you. Watch out for the giant toadstools, and are those really faces staring out at you from the trees?"-From the SL website
SERIOUSLY?
Yes! I'm seriously going to camp here! No, nothing will happen, don't be silly. It's only virtual life! Thanks for worrying about me....but really....I've even got these two friends along with me..See, here they are:
VISIT THE HAUNTED FOREST
Upon login (3 logins and cache clears got me going!!!!), Linden Lab suggests that I visit SL's TOP HAUNTED PLACES TOUR & HUNT, in FairChang Brisas. Okay. Why not? It's Halloween-time!
SL's TOP HAUNTED PLACES TOUR & HUNT
On landing I'm surrounded by rats, ghosts, & eerie music.
"Tour & Hunt of many types of haunted places. You will find breathtaking scenery, imaginative displays, interaction with the monsters, ghosts, spirits &  shopping too! Haunted place? Contact Carolyn Avro."
I PUT A SPELL ON YOU...AND NOW YOU'RE MINE!
Entry hall for a haunted house.
Note: I may be further delayed!!! Funnily...as I entered this house & scary music was set off...a bolt of LIGHTNING hit outside my house, about a block away, in real-life!! It scared me so bad...lol....Waiting to see if the internet holds up.
SKELETON CREW
I thought the Grateful Dead pretty much broke up when Jerry passed on....
HA
The area was obviously a lot of hard work and interesting, though...scary? Not really. This puts me on a task to see if I can find something...truly scary...in SL. Now I'm in the mood! It's hard to find anything really scary, but I'll give it a whirl...The lightning was the scariest thing so far!

LOADING...........

I wake up in my tent and the morning gets off to a slow start...my inventory won't load...sort of like packing to leave camping in the rain...hurry up & wait.
BALD AND SHOELESS, WAITING FOR INVENTORY
I almost was run over on the road by a hot-rodder.
Wondering if something is wrong in SL today? 10 minutes and I still can't rez or barely move. Tried relogs & cache clears....we might not get far today...I'm getting a lot of "Attempt to Rez Object Failed".
BUT FINALLY!
Looks like there's hope after all! I decide to test the system & do some holiday link-following........

HETEROCERA & WARR

Continuing along the road in Heterocera, along Route 1. It's a little lonely once I left the hobo campgrounds. Quiet, with an occasional passing vehicle.
PRIVATE HOMESTEAD IN VELDA
Horses!
CHICKEN STORE
How can one not stop at a chicken store? Especially when there's also WAFFLES?!? Just proves that you can, indeed, find anything at all on the Second Life Grid!
NOOOOO!
The Evil Crystals are everywheeeeere!!
OVERGROWN ROADS
I like the overgrown road. Adds to the impression of new or uncharted land.
WEST ATOLL RAILROAD BRIDGE
The WARR is a Private Railway from Neumoegen to Andraca. This is a very pretty bridge, very scenic... Designed by Hilto Meridoc. Hilto has a blog up which is documenting the contruction of WARR.
There is also this site which gives general information about the goal of WARR and its progress:
"It has already opened between the Hinamizawa station and the Burns station. It has not completed from the Burns station ahead yet. I buy land and am constructing the railway track.I do not understand when the whole line opening to traffic of WARR Main Line becomes. I will handle work one by one. The way is very long, and, however, I believe that I can surely reach a goal some time if I do not give it up." - Hilto Meridoc
TRAIN STATION
And this is where I camp tonight. I really like the train route and will follow it and see what progress Hilto is making. What a neat idea.

BURN2

Today, I'm starting off visiting Burn2, which is Second Life's version of Burning Man. Burning Man is a real event held every year in Nevada.
EXAMPLE OF REAL WORLD BURNING MAN EXHIBIT

BURNING MAN WEBSITE
"Once a year, tens of thousands of participants gather in Nevada's Black Rock Desert to create Black Rock City, dedicated to community, art, self-expression, and self-reliance. They depart one week later, having left no trace whatsoever."
In Second Life, Burn was first held in 2003. It's hard to explain what it's all about. Burn is "people building art, camps and communities and celebrate being who they really are." So, you see some unique, bizarre, original, & fascinating things there...because that's who we all really are!
LANDING AT BURN2
The SL Events guide is full of scheduled events and features for the week. Ideally, just land and explore. There are 4 sims built for the event.
AEONIA ARTIST GROUP PRESENTATION
From the informational note:
"Life is a path you follow. Along this path you will arrive at many waypoints. At each of these crossings questions arise. Should i turn left? Should I buy this car? Should I learn Chinese? And decisions are brought upon us. Which school will i go to? Should I go work overseas? Will you marry me?
Each waypoint, each intersection represents a choice, but it also asks for a decision. And even if the the answers seems to be a minor one – life will never be the same afterwards. Each step to cross the respective intersection is a passage into something new. Each decision taken, each answer given, is a rite of passage. It cannot be avoided – for even if we decide not to give the answer to one of life’s questions – life will not be the same. Change will be forced upon us.The installation "In-Decision" by Aeonia Artist Group is all about these waypoints – and the questions that arise, if the viewer arrives at one. Choose your path and see for yourself, where life takes you."

MAYA PARIS
"Day of the Dead Mermaids, sit on us and watch us glow."
THE SACRIFICE
The Sacrifice by Claudia222 Jewell
"Facing death to prove braveness and to gain enlightenment are Rites of Passage."
CAMPGROUND AT BURN
Campgrounds are important in the real-world Burning Man. Themed camps are the interactive core of Burning Man and participants set them up with enthusiasm and creativity. Here is a large community campground at SL's version of the event.
PLACE OF MANY COLORS!
Burn2 has a live stream with video, hosts DJ's and live performers, and more. The event is running through this weekend.
RAVE DOME 2011
"Grab some free Laser Sticks, crank up the tuneage and get your dance on by clicking the center of the laser."
Build by - Kikiri Tuqiri
VISIT THE RAVE DOME
"TO THE STARS" BY NISH MIP
"Human kinds passage to the stars from the sparks of invention to the journey across the universe and beyond."
DANCE
Another feature from Kikiri Tuqiri.
"The party is in the future! Pass through to the other side, delve into the bowels then dance on top and or ride the eye."

It's a wild and weird experience even virtually.  Be prepared for some lag, due to heavy use of glow and scripts, as well as the crowds. So I recommend travelling light. The real world event sounds like something I would die to attend, I'll have to look into that.
