The road ends abruptly near Langdale, so I run off the beaten path. To the east, there is a group of sims to explore.....

ICEWATER/EVERFROST
There are quaint little holiday villages and shops. Much of these sims look kind of semi-abandoned but there's some neat areas set up, too, and the terrain is unusual.

Islandia is comprised of several blocks of mainland sims initially purchased in January 2006 by Anshe Chung. Unlike private estate projects, Islandia was a part of the mainland auctioned by Linden Lab and presented as fullly terraformable to the seller. Chung's purchase, and subsequent terraforming, was considered controversal.
Islandia is located to the East of the Sansara. It is broken into two parts (known by some as North Islandia and South Islandia) and connected to the mainland by Void Sims.It has also been referred to as Nerevoyde. This is possibly due to its closeness to The Void. especially in earlier days.

Northern Islandia sports a patchwork of different topographies, from island to snow. Many of these regions are named after real world tropical islands.
PINE COAST
Unusual topography on the map is right! This whole area is "abandoned land."
You have to fly down quite a ways south to hit South Islandia...they are not connected directly.
SCHWANSON SCHLEGEL

Southern Islandia has a largely homogenous topography, consisting only of sandy beach set up in a uniform grid. Sim names tend towards the name of either artists or older Second Life residents.
The entire sim of Schwanson Schelegel (say THAT 3 times fast) is owned by a group called "Friends of Cecilia's Public Places" which states its mission is to provide and preserve public places on the mainland including the art campus sim on the 30-sim Islandia subcontinent.
The art campus has a 4-floor museum, 19 other galleries, a coffeehouse, concert hall, a nature park and canals. Nearly 900 works in 27 exhibits: paintings, photographs and sculptures by SL/RL artists; classic contemporary works.

Who is Anshe Chung, you ask?
Anshe Chung is a Second Life avatar created by Ailin Graef. She has built an online business that engages in development, brokerage and arbitrage of virtual land, items and currencies.She was SL's first major real estate broker. Anshe has attracted major media attention through her success, with articles in such magazines as Fortune, Wired, and Business 2.0.

The Land Bulksales Experiment
The most important event in January was the bulksales test for land IMHO. The Lindens auctioned off blocks of 5, 10, 20 and 50 sims. All of this land is flat but fully terraformable at first. It can be designed by the winning bidder, will thereafter become part of the mainland, and can be sold like any other land. “Land production by residents”, so to speak. This is clearly a sign that Linden Lab wants to retract (completely or in part) from the land creation business. Predictably, the first large blocks went to the only development group in SL which has the resources to digest such a huge chunk: Anshechung.com. And, predictably too, this made some residents furious.

Here is a pretty incredible, beautiful mini-replica of the Forbidden City, created by Avery Webb and located in the sim of Versu Richelieu. The area is used as a mall with shops available for rent.
